Pearl Moon

Tamworth Regional Council’s Sustainability Unit presents
Visible mending workshop - Tamworth Gallery

Reduce clothing waste by making or repairing items from reclaimed textiles.

In this hands on workshop textile artist Pearl Moon explains and demonstrates the skills of invisible mending on woven fabrics and darning on knitted garments. Workshop participants will also learn a wide range of techniques that can be used for visible mending, patching and darning. These skills can be applied as decorative touches or to repair genuinely worn fabrics to extend their use for years. Attendees will be introduced to methods using both a sewing machine and hand stitching, including a brief overview of Japanese Boro and sashiko stitching techniques.

Bring along woven or knitted garments in need of repair.

These may not necessarily get completely repaired during the session but the teacher will be able to give specific advice on the best approach for the owners to work on them in their own time.

Make use of suitable hand sewing needles for the workshop duration and make available necessary supplies such as thread, yarn and fabric swatches to use for experimentation.

Esther Halliday Studio
11am-2pm on Sunday 22nd Sept.

Local textile artist Pearl Moon will facilitate the art making.
