TAMWORTH REGIONAL GALLERY FRIENDS NEWSLETTER
WELCOME to 2008 and our new gallery director Sandra McMahon who commenced duty on 2 January. The TRG Friends look forward to assisting Sandra in her development of the Gallery’s programs. So much of the organization of the Gallery’s timetable needs to be done well in advance, hence much of the program for the next two years has already been determined as outlined in Elizabeth’s farewell edition of artPEEL.
No doubt Sandra has plans of her own that in time she would like to implement. We welcome discussion of Sandra’s plans for the Gallery at our monthly meetings, particularly assisting us to redefine and clarify our role as Friends.
Thank you to Pam Brown, acting TRG director, and administrators Di Cole and Phillipa Legg who efficiently conducted the affairs of the Gallery during the transition period prior to Sandra’s appointment.

BA
Hosted by art critic John McPhee (an Australian Country Style
writer) this art education day examines the close relationship
between art, architecture and the decorative arts, including
interior design, furniture, silver, and ceramics in Australian art.
The disturbing art of the Second World War and the particularly
Australian imagery of Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan, Russell
Drysdale and Frances Burke will be considered in relation the
architecture of the period, including work by Roy Grounds and
Guilford Bell. The 1960s and ‘70s abstraction of artists such
as Ralph Balson, Tony Tuckson and Robert Klippel, and the
international modernism of a younger generation in the late
1960s, including Gunter Christman, Dick Watkins and Peter
Booth, and the emergence of contemporary Aboriginal art, will
be considered as a background to the complexity of Australian
art of the late 20th century.
